The primary creatures you'll be summoning at the lower levels are atronachs while more complex beings such as dremora are reserved for advanced conjurors. The Conjuration school revolves around bringing forth creatures from various planes of oblivion into the world and binding them to your will. You're much better off looking to a different school for your offensive needs. It's got great defensive perks and spells, but all the offensive spells cater to the undead while all the others focus on healing. Unfortunately, Restoration falls short of having anything in the realm of general offensive capability. Recovery is a great perk to have for any mage due to it increasing your magicka recovery by 25 percent at rank one and 50 percent at rank two. The perks in this school are excellent as well. Restoration also has amazing spells for those seeking a fight with the undead. It's a greatly useful spell when you have followers like Lydia that stand in a dart trap until they die repeatedly without a care in the world. The school has many spells focused on healing and maintaining the health of you and others with spells like Heal Other, a spell that heals your target for 75 points of health. Restoration magic lets the wielder cast spells focused on healing yourself or others as well as defending against the undead. The biggest downfall to Illusion is that it can be tricky to find a viable situation for some spells, and it can also be difficult to level up thanks to its limited usage. ![]() This works great in conjunction with a stealth spell like Muffle or using a spell to buff undetected before a fight. A great stealth perk is Quiet Casting which, as the name implies, allows for spells from any school of magic to be cast silently. Illusion comes with a slew of perks to strengthen your magic arsenal, whether you're using the school for stealth or to turn the tide of battle. A mage gifted in the Illusion skill tree can turn a skirmish between bandits and guardsmen into an all-out brawl with friends turning to foes with a master-level spell like Mayhem. The five tiers of Illusion spells offer stronger variants of the same spell types as the previous tier, but allow them to affect higher-level NPCs. Illusion magic is all about altering your physical state with effects like Invisibility or changing the state of other beings with spells like Call To Arms. As with all schools of magic, Alteration also has perks that allow you to reduce the cost of the spell by half depending on its required mastery of the skill. Alteration has perks such as Mage Armor that increase the effectiveness of your protection spells by two times, two and a half times, and eventually three times with each rank of the perk purchased. ![]() It offers some great counters to many of the magic-based creatures you're bound to face in the wilds of Skyrim as well as much needed defense boosts when facing difficult enemies such as the higher level dragons. Alteration has some great perks for your everyday casting needs, like the Atronach perk, which absorbs 30 percent of the magicka from any spell that hits you. This allows for spells like Ironflesh, which enhances the casters armor rating by 80 points for 60 seconds, or Dragonhide, which allows you to ignore 80 percent of all physical damage. Alteration is the manipulation of objects in the physical realm and allows for the changing of said objects.
